Arthur Dortch crossed the river bridge after stopping for a red light and found his truck on fire. A fire engine waited as he sped toward Riverfront Street, calling the Monroe fire department. Dortch, from Mississippi, estimated heavy damage to household furnishings and that 150 gallons of gasoline were involved.
Philip Snider of the Monroe fire department said Dorich stopped for a red light as furnishings inside a firelit building ignited. The engine fought the blaze for 15 minutes before containment. Nine grass fires were set in Monroe across blocks on Lee avenue Myrtle street Pershing drive Gordon avenue South Third street Plum Malvern Dick Taylor Moore street Standifer street.
Seven of eight Union Parish men reindicted by a federal grand jury on mail fraud charges tied to alleged election irregularities have been arrested and released on bond. The defendants include H. Fred Futch and several associates charged with conspiring to tilt the January 16 primary by vote miscounting and misallocation at Cherry Ridge.
Judge Henry Drummond presided as W M Harper and Buster Taunton were found guilty of intoxication with fines of 7.54 and 7.59 dollars or 3.5 days in jail respectively. Three others were fined one dollar for improper parking. The note on Heidelberg University cites its 1389 founding.
In Vichy France on November 15 a French protest to the German armistice commission over the expulsion of residents of Lorraine marked a turning point in the collaboration policy championed by Pierre Laval. The public reaction checked Laval's peace plan with Adolf Hitler, though no fatalities were announced.
Ruston native Mrs. William Kidd Duncan Sr. was honored at a Louisiana Federation of Women's Clubs golden jubilee banquet in Alexandria. The Pierian Club founder received the pioneer clubwoman medal and life membership, recognizing over five decades of active service in Ruston’s club life and national federation participation.

Police officers Charles Rusier and Arthur Schlangan confronted a holdup at the old Vienna tavern. A man with a .32 revolver forced the owner, cashier, three bartenders, and 25 customers to drop money. In a brief struggle the officers disarmed him and later identified him as a petit larceny suspect.
