Rome AP reports Italy has raised Social Security taxes to about 50 percent of payroll, a record deemed costly for business and feared to curb foreign investment. The tax split is roughly 42 percent by the employer and 8 by the employee, with further charges into five funds. The total burden, including benefits and bonuses, comes to about 50.27 percent for a representative 100,000 lire salary, making labor appear costly.
