The shrimp boat Pescador, its captain badly wounded, headed for Tampico under escort after the owner said Mexican gunboats inflicted the injuries. The incident occurred near Brownsville as the vessel sought safety and medical aid.
Congressman Joe Kilgore of Texas said he will lodge a strong protest with the State Department over the wounding of an American shrimper captain and the seizure of his boat by a Mexican gunboat. He called for action beyond routine notes between the two governments.
The Pescador, en route to Tampico under armed Mexican escort, is ordered to Tampico for medical attention. Its owner John Santos Carinhas of Brownsville confirmed by radio this morning that the gunboat insisted on the move.
Warsaw reports Parliament expected to abolish the UB the Polish secret police on the eve of Polish leaders to Moscow talks. The Sejm move aims to transfer security matters to the internal affairs ministry and purge remaining Stalinist personnel.
