British naval bombers attacked Taranto Italy severely crippling two battleships and likely damaging a third. A fourth ship and two cruisers plus two auxiliaries were harmed while the Italian fleet’s six capital ships dwindle to only about half effective.
The Ouachita parish WPA sewing project topic for a Wednesday November 20 meeting arranged by the police jury after a petition. Mrs Grace Judy led calls to restore discharged workers and sought state action via Governor Sam H Jones to convene with WPA head James H Crutcher and project supervisor. The jury also moved to ask the district attorney to contact the state attorney general about parish social agency contributions amid Red Cross concerns raised by E C Gibson.

Five men die in a multi-vehicle collision on a highway 28 miles north of Edinburg Texas. Bonnie Bert Kellum a Corpus Christi driver 27 is identified among the dead. Four others die or are injured with several in County City Hospital.
London reports from the First Lord of the Admiralty show merchant ships lost to enemy action in the first 12 months of war: British 406 ships 1 611 842 tons, Allied 103 ships 474 816 tons, Neutral 253 ships 769 212 tons. Total 762 ships 2 855 870 tons. Crew and passengers lost 3 327. Total saved 15 635. Prisoner total 1 100. Enemy losses in same period 261 ships about 1 269 000 tons.
Mrs. D. T. Milam in charge of Red Cross enrollment calls a Friday 10 a.m. meeting on the Virginia Hotel roof. She estimates about 200 workers needed for the residential division and urges all interested workers to attend.

The Empress of Britain and Lan caster ships were sunk by air attacks and torpedoes, while Stuka raids claimed thousands of tons in one day. Britain struggles to maintain its own blockade amid increased German coastal coverage. Submarine and surface raiders have caused major losses since the war began, with intensified air pressure since last year.
The AP reports nearly 88 people died across the United States from a violent storm. Dozens of sailors and duck hunters perished in Lake Michigan and surrounding marshes while many more are listed as missing. Deaths spread across Minnesota Illinois Wisconsin and Ontario with weather forces isolating towns and prompting school closures and cold warnings nationwide.
William Green, president of the American Federation of Labor, said he discussed labor peace with President Roosevelt and that AF L would be glad to meet a CIO representative to resume negotiations. He noted improved sentiment among union members and less influence by CIO chairman John L. Lewis.
Madrid announces that Spain will run Tangier consulate as in protectorates, giving it more authority. Tangier sits opposite Gibraltar at the western Mediterranean entrance. Spain recently assumed control of the international zone, ejecting an international commission.
