A major landslide on Fourviere hill in Lyons, France, kills between 60 and 100 people and destroys 19 houses. Firemen and police died during a second collapse while aiding rescues as Premier Herriot coordinated relief from a hospital bed.
In Lyons France on November 13 authorities evacuated Hospital Des Chateaux and nearby areas amid fears of more landslides after earlier slides killed between 60 and 100 people in the city.
Paul Napoleon Reinard sang at his own funeral as records played beside his grave. Friends arranged the unusual ceremony to honor him, drawing a larger crowd and curious onlookers to the burial in Paris.
Howard Swavely was held in connection with the death of his wife Elizabeth who died of burns suffered at their Atlantic City New Jersey home. Before her death Mrs Swavely had accused her husband of setting fire to her clothing.

New Orleans police arrested a man who gave the name Larry McWilliams aged 4 and after fingerprinting believed him to be a nationally known criminal. The suspect was picked up in a stolen car whose number identified him, and authorities say he fleeced a prominent New Orleans woman in her home posing as a Texas rancher and also robbed another woman in her residence.
In a frosty setting Santa Claus works year round in a busy workshop. He devotes long hours to crafting toy parts with sawdust on the floor and a cluttered workbench. The scene depicts Santa shaping airplanes and other toys while a supply house shelves lumber for the gifts.

The eighty third annual Louisiana Baptist convention neared adjournment with most business finished. A key issue was a proposed $80,000 debt payoff for the Louisiana Baptist hospital in Alexandria via six percent bonds floated by the convention.
In Peru, martial law was imposed in Junin and Lima after deadly riots at the Cerro De Pasco copper mine. Two Americans were killed along with an Austrian, and scores were wounded as conflict between American and British mine operators and local workers escalated. Foreign workers evacuated to Lima by special train as a general strike began at Callao port over a dispute involving Duncan, Fox & Co.
Paris reports Pola Negri will publish a memoir titled My Confession after writing in the Riviera sun while awaiting divorce proceedings. She discusses correcting false impressions, detailing loves and life in Hollywood, and her aim to resume stage stardom. She plans a New York visit in January and hints at a musical or dramatic project.
Pola Negri refutes reports she has not received talking picture offers due to pronunciation. She states she will have plenty of time when talkies are perfected and continues to pursue future film roles.

Five men died and one worker was injured when a rock and dirt slide demolished a bunk house at the Anyox mine of the Granby Consolidated Mining Smelting and Power company near Anyox Observatory Inlet about 50 miles north of Prince Rupert. Reports were scarce.
At its regular meeting Thursday morn, Monroe commissioners adopted the revenue ordinance for licensing all business classes. The bill, identical to last year, sets fees and collection methods effective January 1, 1931. They also adopted a barber shop regulation to conform to the state sanitary code and authorized purchasing land next to Bernstein Park to expand park property.

Mont Prezier a 33 year old New Orleans resident identified himself in a Oklahoma City hospital after being found unconscious on a Geary highway. He said he and two Kansas City companions were en route to Phoenix when he was slugged robbed of 30 dollars and left by the roadside. He suffered a possible skull fracture and could not name his assailants.
With party strength nearly even in the next House, Paul J. Kvale of Minnesota, the lone farmer labor member, is expected to cast decisive votes on many issues.
Inspectors from the United States Department of Agriculture found 5 748 pints of bourbon whisky valued around 25 000 dollars in a freight car labeled Pineapples careful. The cargo, unloaded from a Seatrain ship between Havana and New Orleans, was bound for the Ontario Produce company in Canada via Detroit.
Starkville Mississippi November 13 Hugh Critz president of Mississippi A. and M. said he has not decided but may refuse to release Christian Keener Cagle from his football coaching contract until after the Thanksgiving game. Cagle wired the AP that he plans to leave for professional football around November 17 and wants to settle the release with minimal friction.
Kemble K. Kennedy a suspended LSU law senior and former student body president was sentenced in Baton Rouge to one year in prison for four counts of criminal libel and circulation of obscene matter tied to The Whang doodle scandal sheet. He also faces 90 days more if trial costs remain unpaid. The judge imposed three month terms on each count to run consecutively. Kennedy had editorial responsibility for the publication.
West Point announced Major General William R. Smith said the academy will play Navy in a December 6 postseason football game in New York. The greeting was sent to the Naval Academy by telegraph.
