A vast majority of the new Congress appears aligned with President Roosevelt's New Deal, showing broad support for NRA and AAA revisions, unemployment measures, and New Deal programs. Non commitment remains on key issues, with many lawmakers pledging to follow the president.
An unidentified thief smashed a saloon plate glass in New Orleans and stole about a dozen bottles of whisky and cordials, stuffing them in his clothing and fleeing before police were alerted. The incident occurred last night under street lighting with cars passing by.
Several persons were injured in two automobile accidents Sunday. On Sterlington road Mrs. George Shamis of Bastrop suffered a broken leg when her car collided with a car driven by Mrs. Ollie Douglass and overturned. Other Bastrop residents in the Shamis vehicle included Mr. Shamis, his nine month old baby, Mrs. Marie Naklia, and Mrs. Corinne Abdallah and her five year old son. The baby and boy were uninjured. the adults sustained minor injuries. They were taken to the Clinic by ambulance.
In Monroe, Deputy Sheriff Frank Cline rushed Sollie Adler and other prospects to court for jury duty where Sollie’s persistent gum chewing and smile drew attention as a possible reason for dismissal. Her husband William Keen 26 said she jumped onto the running board but was dragged away as he was pushed off. The incident reportedly followed a party at a North End hotel before heading to Canal Street quarters.
Paraguay declined to accept a League of Nations backed truce in exchange for guarantees. Paraguay insists hostilities end before negotiations and terms are set, while conciliation is accepted. The League awaits Bolivia’s reply to its armistice plan and may press Bolivia to accept a truce with immediate peace talks.

Fire in a double cottage at 1709 11 Seventh Street in New Orleans drove two families from their beds in night clothing. The blaze, started under the rear house, caused about 6850 dollars in damages while a prospective bride saved her wedding trousseau and presents from the shower. Mrs. Jacob Creidman woke her husband and daughter Pearl, who fled with the gifts. Other occupants were Mr and Mrs Ike Slipakoff.
The coast guard cutter Corwin rescued six persons suffering from exposure after The Sylvia ran aground off Turtle Island in Lake Erie. The passengers, who had been without heat during an icy storm, were transferred to the Corwin and taken to Toledo. The Sylvia had been missing since yesterday, and rescuers feared for the crew.
Monday morning the Ouachita chapter received initial enrollments as the Red Cross Roll Call campaign nears. The drive aims for 10 000 dollars to fund the year’s work, with 26 members joining and house-to-house canvassing planned Wednesday by the women's division and local veterans groups.

Corporal Peter W Armstrong 90 a native of New Orleans died yesterday and was buried today in a blue Union uniform. He fought for the north in the Civil War and joined the Union forces at outbreak. His last public appearance was at a banquet honoring himself and Captain James Dinkins a Confederate ally.
