Sen Allen Ellender of Louisiana proposed trading with Russia even on a barter basis to absorb surplus American farm products. He charged the State Department with hindering sale abroad and spoke at a two day hearing in Alexandria with Sens Eastland Schoeppel and Young and farmers from six Southern states discussing cotton rice dairy and tung oil industries.
President Eisenhower departed Denver aboard Columbine III for Washington in cold rain after thanking Americans who aided his illness. He praised the Air Force personnel at Fitzsimons and Lowry and expressed eternal gratitude for prayers worldwide as he ends a seven week illness arc.

Vernon County Sheriff says Dennis Twing, 17, shot his former sweetheart Kay Broderick 15 and her friend Lynn Lawton 15 in Broderick s home after returning her ring. He was taken into custody in Richland Center about 6 45 am while hitchhiking toward Madison. Broderick is in critical condition with four bullet wounds Lawton is listed in good condition.
The Big Four foreign ministers met in secret and agreed to adjourn their Geneva talks with a final session next Wednesday. The U S statement said the conference would end one day before the three week target set at New York.
The Appeals Court of Louisiana confirms Dr. D L Anderson of Monroe as a qualified candidate for Ouachita parish coroner in the January 17 Democratic primary. The challenge raised by incumbent Dr J T French centered on timing of qualification but the appellate ruling upholds the local committee’s deadlines.
Charles Ray Russell and Lannie Dortch face a jury trial in Monroe during the final week of the criminal term, starting November 21, on armed robbery charges tied to a local poker game. Billy Deal remains in custody at the Louisiana State Penitentiary for related crimes.

A Texas man William White alias Morris White deceived Brenham residents and church members by promising a $300 000 inheritance and a free church building while borrowing money. He fled after being sought on theft charges and an arrest warrant for taking 150 dollars from Henry Lehrmann, a beer distributor. Authorities backed by highway patrol and state police pursued leads through Brenham and nearby towns. White, connected to a Houston lodging with Lehrmann’s son, claimed to hold cashier’s checks totaling 300 000 dollars and faced bank refusals over a 50 000 dollar withdrawal.
Rescuers pressed dawn to reach George Chenchar 54 trapped by a cave-in at a Union Pacific coal mine near Rock Springs Wyoming. Louis Julius 38 was rescued apparently in good shape after seven hours beneath debris while John Nesbit 43 was found crushed nearby. Coroner said two to three hours remained to reach Chenchar as rescuers fought through 15 to 20 feet of dirt and coal.
At Arlington National Cemetery and in memory of the Unknown Soldier, Herbert Hoover joined President Eisenhower in Veterans Day remarks urging continued pursuit of lasting peace. Hoover laid the wreath, emphasized not glorifying war, and called for national dedication to preparedness and deterrence in defense of freedom.
Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Lane Parker 43 of Monroe will be held at 10 a m Saturday at Indian Village Methodist Church Rev E L Tanner officiating with interment at Indian Village cemetery Mulhearn Funeral Home in charge She was the sister of Newt V Mills former state representative from Ouachita parish and a member of the West Monroe Assembly of God Church She is survived by her parents Mr and Mrs Henry Mills of Calhoun and two sisters Mrs Lemma Stanford and Mrs Gertie Buckley both of Monroe.
Cairo reports say Egypt has a contract for 30 Vampire jets from an Italian firm, potentially easing arms from NATO amid Soviet deliveries. The deal, if signed six months ago, would augment Egypt’s arsenal alongside Czech and Russian weapons, with Western powers wary of a widening Arab Israeli arms race.
Six teens died when their car was struck by a Milwaukee Road passenger train at a grade crossing near Plato Minnesota. The victims include Robert Luedtke and Roger Frauendiest both 17 or 18 from New Auburn and Plato residents Milton Brelje 16 Margaret Fuller 15 Maurice Olson 14 and Kari Olson 16. The crash occurred after the youth party picked up two Plato residents.
Six people died in Mississippi traffic crashes over yesterday and today including Raymond Leroy Fair a four foot eight inch former carnival midget who died near Jackson. A 17 year old and his mother from Winona also perished in a car truck crash near Winona. Others killed were Wilbert Albert Fletcher 41 of Independence La Clarence May of Waynesboro and Johnnie A Roberts Jr 22 of Belzoni in separate incidents.
The Louisiana Association of Licensed Nursing Homes meets Saturday at the Virginia hotel to discuss facility modernization and a planned program for the future. speakers include Dr Prentice C Gray Jr and Jim Williams. Edward P Cameron will address the luncheon. About 100 administrators are expected to attend as they review federal requirements and architectural recommendations.
Dewey Washer a 56 year old resident near the mouth of Cheniere Lake outside West Monroe died Thursday afternoon. Coroner Dr J T French ruled a heart attack. The body was found by Harvey Gibson who visited Washer's home. Funeral services were held at Cartwright Baptist Church with interment in Cartwright cemetery. Survivors include brothers Felix of Plaquemines Clarence of Montgomery and sister Nettie Huey of Choudrant. He had 836.90 in his pockets at death.
