Negro House Destroyed by Fire on Congo Street
A small three room Negro house at the corner of Congo and Washington streets burned at 9 o'clock this morning. The Monroe fire department arrived too late as the structure was a mass of flames. The estimated loss is about $200 and a gas stove is suspected to have started the fire.
