The Supreme Court, with Chief Justice Stone delivering the opinion, ruled that state sales and use taxes apply to defense contracts using a cost plus fixed fee basis. Oscar E Walker age 33 and his younger brother Dowin Walker, 17, died after a head-on collision with a gravel truck near Oak Grove. The four men were en route north when passing a truck led to the fatal crash on Highway 16, near Epps. Bodies held for funeral arrangements in Oak Grove.

The House Rules Committee cleared the way for final action on a broad neutrality act revision to permit arming American merchant ships and sending them to combat zones and belligerent ports. Debate was limited to eight hours. Dem Cox of Georgia urged action to curb labor saboteurs and warned the country is being led toward war, while Speaker Rayburn noted administration forces seek Senate amendments, with no forecast of final majority.
Truman DeLoach a 33 year old grocery employee in Shreveport was fatally struck by a car at Dodson while attempting to board a bus for the return trip. He had lived on a Dodson farm before moving to Shreveport months earlier to work at the local store and had traveled there with a friend to visit his wife and children.
A freight cylinder head blew from a freight engine, derailing the Pennsylvania Railroad's Pennsylvanian near Dun Kirk. Eleven killed, about fifty injured as passengers were thrown from seats in subfreezing air. Two hundred yards of track damaged. rail service to resume by noon.
Armistice Day will be observed as a legal holiday in the Twin Cities with banks courts and government offices closed. A veterans parade in Monroe is sponsored by the L B Faulk post of the American Legion followed by exercises at Temple B Nai Israel at 10 30 a m. The Rodney J Hobbs post of Veterans of Foreign Wars will dedicate a flagpole at the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home at 11 a m and then hold an address and patriotic program at their post rooms. The Legion parade forms near Ouachita Parish High School just after 10 a m and travels through Edsiard and Sixth streets ending at Central Grammar School.
Baton Rouge November 10. More holiday workers for part time Christmas jobs will be hired through the Louisiana State Employment Service this year than ever before. H R Bishop director said no figures yet but reports from across the state indicate a large number. Requests from stores in large cities will be handled through 21 employment centers as the service surveys its offices.
