Rutland man marks 24th birthday in close jail cell
Bernard J. Smith Jr of Fair Haven observes his 24th birthday while serving his 217th day in Rutland county jail under a close jail execution sentence for failing to pay a 2570.42 dollar judgment from an April 1 1946 auto crash that killed James J Magnan of Rutland. U S Columbus to Return for Refit in Boston
The heavy cruiser Columbus flagship of the U S Mediterranean and eastern Atlantic fleet sails to Boston navy yard for a December refit. Watch Returned After 17 Years in Baltimore
