Dortch Death Unavoidable in Parson Parish Incident
Percy Dortch a 14 year old schoolboy was crushed under the wheels of a Ouachita parish school truck driven by Courtney McCaskill of ward eight at Grand and DeSiard streets. The parish coroner Dr J T French ruled the death unavoidable after an inquest with six witnesses describing the bicycle wedging between a parked car and the bus leaving insufficient space. He died en route to hospital. Dortch's funeral was held at the First Methodist Church in West Monroe.

Mass Slayings Reported By Two War Crimes Witnesses
Two women testified at the Yamashita war crimes commission about mass killings near Tasi Batangas on February 16 18. Conchita Lualhati said Japanese soldiers burned a barrio then shot and grenaded residents in a ravine killing more than 30 including her husband and infant. Juanita Barrion recounted the deaths of her mother father and siblings and surviving by pretending to be dead. They blamed the attackers for the carnage noting no American troops were nearby.
