Policeman Earle Fatally Wounded Near Monroe Bakery Plant

An unknown negro shot Monroe police officer C M Earle at about 12 20 am in a shed near the Monroe Baking Company plant on DeSiard street. Earle, four years on the force, was left with a lung wound and possible paralysis. mayor and police inspector posted rewards for information leading to arrest.

Precautionary steps by the state department to counter alleged Russian soviet agitators reaching the United States. Negro fires on officers as they order surrender

A fugitive black man opened fire on Officers Earle and Parker as they tried to force him from a shed near Monroe Baking Co on De Siard street. The stray shots missed. the man fled and later was arrested at Swartz. Inspector Heap said the suspect would be released if not connected to the crime.

In New Orleans near McDonaghville a shootout occurred between liquor runners and deputies. An unidentified alleged liquor runner was killed and two deputies were seriously wounded as the group tried to move a boatload of liquor into the city.
