Citizens gather with enthusiasm to voice support for Michel and indicate a clear tilt toward the democratic leadership. The meeting underscores public backing for democratic direction and leadership.
The Times-Democrat reports John T. Michel opened his Louisiana governor campaign with a rally at the Athenaeum. A crowded audience included prominent businessmen and out-of-town politicians, with W. B. Thompson presiding and Charles Rosen delivering a masterful address praising Michel’s business and public credentials.
In a Wehran report Ros defended honorable candidates Judge Hall Prof Aswell and Michel while endorsing Michel as best for governor based on state experience. Lawrason spoke for country voters denying city country split and praised Michel’s career and qualifications despite out of town endorsements.
A crowd at the Natchitoches courthouse heard Judge Hall Senator Gueydan and Mr Pujo attack Sanders Michel ward bosses and avoid reform or Dr Aswell. The Aswell camp showed support while many Hall backers grew lukewarm or left before the speech ended. The piece notes John P Parker applauded Hall but grew quiet as the talk continued.
Judge L E Hall spoke at the Campu High School Auditorium to about 160 listeners including women and children. He denounced Michel while avoiding mention of Aswell, likely to prevent a counter demonstration.
At 10 15 this morning in the New South Drug Store Monroe Louisiana Dr A H Gladden fatally shot Charles B Wolfson North Louisiana representative of Union Central Life Insurance Company. The men had a Monday afternoon feud and the fatal shot entered Wolfson’s head just above the left eye. Wolfson was taken to West Monroe Sanitarium. Gladden was uninjured and jailed. The dispute stemmed from remarks about A O Pessou of New Orleans and involved a pistol exchange that ended in Wolfson’s death.
Ohio Governor Judson Harmon bases his forecast on Tuesday's wins in Massachusetts Kentucky Ohio and other places. He says the elections show strong Democratic approval of current administration and tax reforms and predicts Republicans will lose national offices including the presidency next year. Harmony also notes Cincinnati voters rejected Republican sway and praises Democratic governance.
