The Kelly Barnes dam near Toccoa Falls failed after torrential rains killing dozens. Carlos Poree, 35, is charged with 10 counts of attempted murder after a rampage that started with his estranged wife and father-in-law and spread to a park, a brokerage office, and a downtown sidewalk in New Orleans. He surrendered without resistance. His mother-in-law said the job loss and marital problems preceded the incident.
A man linked to a shooting rampage at Charity Hospital grabbed for a policeman's gun in a hospital corridor but was subdued and no one was injured. One shot fired during the scuffle, Charity Hospital officials said. The suspect had been an IRS employee, per officials, and the arrest followed shootings near a stock brokerage office across the street.
Police report an hour long shooting spree Monday across a residential area, a central commercial district, and a French Quarter plaza in New Orleans. Carlos Poree, 35, a former IRS auditor, was arrested. His wife, father in law, and eight others were wounded.
Across Virginia New Jersey and 38 major cities heavy rain and flooding kept turnout light to moderate. In New Jersey Governor Byrne and Republican rival Bateman faced a modest statewide turnout while Virginia saw heavy voting in Rich mond suburbs and Norfolk.
