Pi Yandell Boatner a 47 year old Shreveport lawyer and former assistant United States attorney was critically wounded by a .22 caliber rifle discharge in his room at his home. The bullet pierced the chest and exited the back and he was taken to a sanitarium where a transfusion was given. His condition remained critical with a chance of recovery while witnesses were unavailable.
Governor Richard Leche left Baton Rouge for New Orleans to cast his ballot in the general election. The native of New Orleans noted light turnout at the state capital as clear, chilly weather persisted. Voter C. W. Holden, 94, said he has never missed an election here since Reconstruction days, and his four children also vote in East Baton Rouge parish.
The agriculture department revised its forecast to 12,137,000 bales of 500 pounds gross weight for this year, down from 12,212,000 a month earlier.
