A large turnout of prominent Fort Payne business leaders gathered for seven separate meetings in progress simultaneously. In Panama, the Canal Zone opened its first postal savings banks on November 8, offering a government custody depository without interest to Canal Zone residents.
Special to The News-Star reports the Michel meeting at the Athenaeum on Nov. 8 drawing an estimated crowd of at least 15 000. Seven simultaneous meetings, street crowds, and speakers including John T. Michel, W B Thompson, James Dinkins, Charles Rosen, S McC Lawrason, and Edward Righter.
Fort Payne Alabama November 7 E C Drew was arrested in Boston as a fugitive and brought to Birmingham on November 1. In Federal court Judge Grubbs ordered a new bond of 10090 discloses a reprimand to the U S district attorney for disobeying orders not to arrest unless boarding a steamer. Drew arrived from Birmingham with 34 dollars and stockholder letters.
Founders Day at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley Mass was observed today with the usual exercises. President Faunce of Brown University delivered the principal address.
The Guild of St. Barnabas nurses from the United States, Canada and several other countries convened in Chicago for its twenty fifth annual council meeting on November 8.

Returns from yesterday's election show Theodore G. Bilbo trailing James E. Lester by about three thousand votes in a thirty thousand vote pool. Lester's surge stems from a Democratic factional split, with Natchez Vicksburg Biloxi Gulfport and Greenville voting for Lester. Full results await several days.
New York voters project a 101 member Republican majority in the assembly with 48 Democrats and 1 Socialist. The State Senate remains Democratic, ensuring continued control there.
Rudolph Blankenburg Democratic Keystone and Independent Republican candidate won Philadelphia mayoral election by about five thousand, overturning a Republican majority of roughly one hundred thousand. He was known as the war horse of reform after a hard fought campaign.
