The Altrurian book club hosts Miss Lallage Feazel presenting Saint Joan at Lakeside on Saturday at 3 30 p m with a silver tea afterward. The note includes literary lines and reflections on faith and purpose.
Friends gathered Thursday to honor Mrs. Turbiville on her seventy third birthday with flowers, cake, and reminiscences. The Louisiana Daughters of the American Revolution announce new chapters and historic plaques in Natchitoches, with regents and ceremonies planned. Mr. and Mrs. D Crawford Young toured Wichita Falls and Monterey for a mountain trip, using the city as base.
The original owner of a leopard skin coat once roamed an Indian jungle. An ermine coat stems from Sweden and other furs come from Russia Persia Siberia Canada and the United States supplies mink.
A refined private dining room gathering at the Frances hotel Saturday night honored Miss Lucille Mangham and Mr. James Trousdale. Guests wore formal attire as a six course dinner was served, with elaborately arranged chrysanthemums and amber candelsticks enhancing the table setting.
The Monroe Garden club flower show returns to the American Legion home drawing gardeners from surrounding communities. Chrysanthemums and dahlias lead a display with Radiance roses in pink and red as the centerpiece, plus the Mexican sun flower shown last year.

Auxiliary events at the Legion home include a 7 30 p m meeting. Lakeside Golf and Country club hosts Ladies day with a noon luncheon and a bridge tournament to follow. Semper Fidelis class meets with Mrs McReynolds at 3 p m. Thompson Wood Lee Auxiliary also meets. Saturday junior charity league sponsors a night club at the Frances hotel at 9 p m public welcome.
The Most Rev John William Shaw archbishop of New Orleans was laid to rest beside his predecessors in St. Louis Cathedral after a requiem mass. Bishops from Louisiana and nearby states attended as a eulogy was delivered. A temporary successor will be named by diocesan consultants ahead of Vatican confirmation. Archbishop Shaw died last Friday after a 10 day illness at age TL.
Posters outlining labor code provisions are being distributed to food and grocery dealers. Retailers must display them in prominent spots. those who miss the mailings should contact R. W. Germany. Noncompliance violates the code and Roosevelt proclamation, with state officials conducting checks.
An investigation into the Monday collision that killed Briscoe A. Trousdale, 65, at the Texas avenue and South Second street intersection was conducted Tuesday morning by coroner Dr. C. L. Mengis, district attorney Frank Hawthorne, and Sheriff Milton Coverdale. The probe continued Tuesday afternoon with no result announced yet.
Eighty seven persons enrolled as a training school opens at Monroe First Baptist Church Monday night. Enrollment remains open tonight but closes after that. Classes begin at 7 p.m. except the Bible Heroes course which starts at 4 p.m.
The body of Moody Heard, 21, who fell overboard from an excursion steamer a week earlier, was recovered today in the Mississippi River several miles above Baton Rouge near the drowning site. A negro recovered the body.
Theft of a 1931 model Chevrolet coupe from the rear of 316 DeSiard street was reported to police by W. H. Henderson of 1415 North Second street. A second report notes a dozen clothing items stolen from a clothes line in L. E. Laurent's yard at 1709 Jackson street.
The most powerful broadcasting station in South America was launched in Lima Peru. The operating company imported a thousand radio sets to be sold at cost to spark public interest in the new station.

McLeod suffers a severe appendicitis aboard a ship headed toward Singapore. Doctor Van Reuter jokes about the condition yet grimly warns surgery is needed to prevent rupture. McLeod frets over hospital costs and his fear of dying before treatment.
In a tense scene aboard the Baldero, Harvey Bowers negotiates a risky berth to Singapore while Flint resists. Dr. Van Reuter faces McLeod’s fear of surgery and the fate of the two tigers amid a doomed voyage and a mysterious cargo.
