Mystery of Abandoned Gloucester Schooner Annie M Parker
The Gloucester fishing schooner Annie M Parker drifted with all sails set after leaving Sydney Nova Scotia October 26 bound for the east. A British steamer found four dories missing and crew later rescued by the Tifton from Nantucket 24 hours afloat with little food or water. Captain Vincent Nelson and three others were later reported missing. one crewman died, and the Parker was towed to New Bedford with no clear explanation for the abandonment.

W. W. Merchant a former barber in Monroe and West Monroe died in Hallsville Texas from self-administered poison. He took the drug Friday night and died around 2 AM Saturday after a Friday shift and a worsening headache. He had worked at Day and Spaurh shop and later ran a shop in West Monroe before moving to Winnfield then Hallsville. His wife, described as stylish, traveled east via train after his death.
