A Colorado snowstorm that paralyzed Denver and much of the state began to ease and move south toward New Mexico. Eight deaths were linked to the storm, four in Denver from cars stuck in drifts, with other impacts including delayed trains and hazardous highways. A Denver birth occurred as a physician could not reach due to weather.
Scattered clashes marked Bakr Id as cattle sacred to Hindus were sacrificed in mosques. Two killed and three injured in Howrah, eighteen knife and acid attacks in Bombay, curfew tightened, and a state of emergency declared in Kolaba district after Hindu Muslim violence. Armed troops escorted worshippers in Calcutta. Violence eased with extra police deployment.
British naval intelligence said at least 100 ships, many funded by American money, were bought by Jewish underground groups to ferry Jewish refugees from Europe to Palestine. Ships range from death trap caiques to converted corvettes and gunboats, anchored in southern European ports.

Billy Anderson 16 and Nathern James 15 were sentenced to life in San Quentin for killing Billy Anderson Sr. and Mrs. Anderson at the Live Oak ranch. They admitted waiting on the porch and shooting the couple through a window before fleeing with a neighbor girl. parole eligibility begins after at least seven years.
President Truman voted this morning in Independence with his wife and daughter Margaret and later boarded a special presidential train to Washington. He cast a straight Democratic ballot at Blue township precinct seven, with several local officials present including his sister and brother in law. The First Family then traveled to the Independence railroad station for the 9 30 a.m. departure.
A 46-year-old former postal clerk confessed to stealing $40,000 from a mail sack in 1937 but cannot be prosecuted due to a three year statute. Treasury officials noted failure to pay income tax on the funds. Special Investigator Palmer said the man hid the cash in his garage and later wasted all his money while fleeing with his family. He is described as nearing a breakdown.
Dr. Alfred H. Joy 64 internationally known astronomer was reported in serious condition after falling from the Mt Wilson Observatory 100 inch telescope platform to a concrete tier twenty feet below. He suffered two broken arms and a fractured left leg while making midnight calculations for charting and photographing the Milky Way. A giant crane was used to lower him to an ambulance.

Mississippi saw new member John Bell Williams win a ratification, while incumbents Rankin Whitten Whittington and others were returned. Boggs Passman are new Louisiana faces, with Hebert Suarez and Herbst contesting.

Federal officers and police from two states pursue Rufus Porter Thomason 36, a Belgreen wood chopper, accused of fatally shooting Mrs Bodie Welch 39, mother of his 11 year old wife. Thomason fled after hiring a car to Mississippi, with bloodhounds aiding the search in the wooded border area.
James Roy Walters, 42, of Richland parish, died after accidentally shooting his knee while hunting squirrels near Delhi Louisiana. He was a Baptist deacon and Sunday school superintendent at Lamar, Louisiana. Funeral at Lamar Baptist Church with Rev. J. H. Keyes. interment in Delhi Masonic Cemetery. Survived by wife, two sons, one daughter, three brothers and two sisters.
In Louisiana, State Rep. W. J. Cleveland wins a devolutive appeal to the First Circuit Court of Appeal Third District set for November 20. The case challenges Gov. Davis's veto of the anti closed shop bill after the ten day limit, with Secretary of State Wade O. Martin Jr. as defendant. Judge Holcombe had ruled Cleveland lacked pecuniary loss and standing.
