Baton Rouge La Nov 5 1 State Finance Director Martin Close aided by a fiscal report made public today that his predicted 8630125 02 deficit for the state general fund by the BO 182 will be greatly reduced as a result of savings already effected and a continuation of the policies of economy and busy administration Rendering a report on the Louisiana state financial position required by the new state fiscal code it contains for the first time the complete picture of funds A comparison with the prior fiscal year was impossible because records are so incomplete as to be of little or no value for comparative purposes Thus in transmitting his report to Governor Sam Jones the finance director declared he believed it would prove a landmark in the history of fiscal reporting in our state Close said that instead of a 2130855 14 deficit developing in the general fund at June 30 1941 as he had expected a surplus on that date totaled 1243050 95 He cited increased tax revenues large savings through central purchasing and cooperation between state agencies but said the factor contributing most in changing the deficit to a surplus was careful analysis of work programs and allotments for fiscal efficiency.
Kansas City November 5. Marvin Tuxhorn, 28, flew to England as a fighter ferry pilot earning 600 dollars monthly to build heavy aircraft time. He soloed at 14, later resigned with 11 others after five months in the service, most hours spent on the ground. State Representative Beatrice H. Moore travels to pray Governor Sam Jones to move $2,000,000 from the general fund to the state institutions fund. She cites wage gaps for lowest paid workers and the need to cover higher costs of medicine and food in facilities.
Reginald H. Carter Sr., 79, federal district court commissioner in admiralty, was knocked down by a bicyclist described as a Negro and suffered a fractured left leg. He is the father of United States Commissioner Carter.
