Spectacular at-sea scene as Diaz travels aboard Esperanza
The quarter deck lifeboat from Michigan was lowered as General Diaz and companions boarded. Searchlights scanned a heavy sea while battleship sailors rowed toward leeward of the Esperanza. Captain Curtis called it one of the most spectacular fights seen at sea. Diaz reached Havana safely and was landed by the customs launch.
