Washington, Nov. 5 The nation braces for midterm voting in forty four states next Tuesday with major races, new party efforts, and crucial choose ups. Democrats target Republican strongholds as the Senate and House seats face wide contests. Oregon Missouri and Colorado push scores of amendments. Roosevelt involvement in New York boosts turnout while Pennsylvania Tennessee and Ohio offer pivotal gubernatorial battles.
The Lesser Goldman Cotton Company of St. Louis filed a complaint against the Iron Mountain road alleging a three cent per hundred pounds discount for cotton compressed outside Arkansas and shipped via Boston New Orleans. The suit seeks 16658 dollars in reparation and demands production of railroad books to determine any additional sums due. The complaint cites Monroe Louisiana and other points and suggests the railroad steers Arkansas compresses toward Louisiana interests.
A Texas woman was found guilty of murdering her husband and received a life sentence. The defendant sobbed convulsively as the verdict was announced, marking a solemn close to a contentious trial.
Waco Texas November 5 Mrs M L Straight was found guilty after weeks on trial for the murder of her husband at their McGregor Texas home last June. The jury recommended a life sentence as the defendant sobbed on a cot during the verdict. He was a well known Texas newspaper man.
London reports that Dr. Hawley H. Crippen, convicted of murdering his actress wife Belle Elmore, had his final appeal denied by the criminal court of appeals. He is set to be hanged on November 8.
