Cordell Coodies Wizner, a Monroe Negro wanted on aggravated battery charges, was fatally wounded Monday night near Homer while resisting arrest by Deputy W. E. Kelly. Sheriff J. N. Brown of Claiborne parish relayed the incident after Wizner, once living at 508 North 8th street, had been sought since October 19 following a cutting affray in which Dan Brewster was seriously slashed. Local records show Wizner pleaded guilty to aggravated battery in 1946 and served 23 days after time already served.
