The Monroe community prepares for Armistice Day with a three minute silent observance at 11 a m led by the Rotary Fellowship committee chaired by Walker Glenn. Schools churches stores and citizens urged to observe with bells and whistles, and Mayor Bernstein to issue a fitting proclamation.
Monroe’s Post of the American Legion plans Armistice Day events with a parade from the court house through downtown to the City School auditorium for speeches and music. The day features high school football, store closings, Boy Scout patrols, and Knights of Pythias band performances, all under civic cooperation.
Nashville Tennessee November 4 The Old Hickory division opened its third annual reunion with a message from the President praising veterans records in peace and honoring Pershing as guest of honor.
Tokio reports Premier Hara fatally stabbed at the railroad station. Officials in Washington confirm receipt of news from the Associated Press as Japanese diplomats learn of the assassination. Death announcement follows with no further details released.
A massive blaze in Weehawken New Jersey devastates Erie railroad piers and waterfront yards. Five piers, a five story flour warehouse, thirty barges, thirty freight cars, and five oil tanks are destroyed with losses estimated at around one million dollars. Crowds gather from Jersey and Manhattan to watch the dramatic fire.
Parish tuberculosis associations in the Fifth District met at Monroe City Hall to form a district wide push against the white plague. Delegates from Bastrop Farmerville Ruston Eros Rayville Columbia and more attended as Miss Kate Gordon and Miss Louise Schoeder urged statewide action and announced tours to Bastrop Ferriday and other towns. Ouachita parish now reports over 2500 Modern Health Crusaders.

Traveling men and families from Monroe attended the State Fair in Shreveport as a W S P railroad special train ran from Monroe at 6 a m and returns at 9 p m. Monroe Day drew Ouachita parish crowds yesterday and a variety of fairgoers joined the event. Dr J L Adams and visitors Dr B M McKain Prof J A Rainbolt addressed attendees. music by the quartet and orchestra accompanied the evening as TEF Houston was elected president, Geo H Lowery vice president, and W Oliver secretary treasurer.
H J Fernandez manager of the Monroe Traffic Bureau was elected president of the Southwestern Industrial Traffic League at Fort Worth Texas succeeding C A Bland of Beaumont Texas Other officers named include H D Driscoll Oklahoma City G J Vizard Little Rock and G S Maxwell Dallas The one year term follows Fernandez service as vice president and the group plans to push Congress for Interstate Commerce Commission act changes including placing the Railroad Labor Board under ICC jurisdiction.
Telegram from District Attorney David I Garrett reports his prize winning Barred Rocks cockerel earned first prize and grand champion in the state fair poultry show with over three thousand birds entered. Two full sisters won second and third at the same event.
Attorney Q. C. Dawkins of Monroe will speak at Arcadia Armistice Day observances. The town plans a notable celebration with a barbecue parade and entertainment by the American Legion.
San Francisco police and District Attorney Matthews Brady sought Miss Alice Blake a principal state witness in the Roscoe Fatty Arbuckle manslaughter case. Blake vanished yesterday while not under arrest but held with her consent awaiting the November fourteenth trial. Her mother and an unnamed attorney had visited prior to the disappearance.

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury meets Wednesday to discuss bids for highway construction in December and start actual work in January. Twenty miles in the western section will launch after the new year funded by over 1 million dollars in road bonds, with eighty five more miles planned for spring. Surveys and preliminary tasks precede bids as officials await bond funds, with a November 9 meeting to outline details. The Taxpayers Protective League plans to pursue reduced assessments in state courts if the 1921 assessment is not adopted, and the jury will review protests next Thursday ensuring policy favors taxpayers.
