Captain G B Cooley dies longtime benefactor of Pine Top Sanatorium
Captain Gilbert B. Cooley known as Bert Cooley died Sunday at age 87 in Ouachita Parish. A philanthropist for tuberculosis relief he helped fund the Pine Top Sanatorium. Funeral services were held Monday at Hixson Brothers with Rev. Holloway and Rev. Hayward officiating. Interment followed at the sanatorium grounds. Cooley was born October 21, 1865 in Savannah Illinois and moved to Monroe in 1885 to start a business career.

French ruled Monger responsible for the death of Russell Webster 20 who died after a 1951 Ford failed to stop at a stop sign at North Fourth and Pine Streets.
