A historic sale advertises a five day Fur Coat event at Silverstein’s starting Saturday November 7 offering unusually low prices due to wartime supply limits. Prices are said to be unbeatable this year and fur selections include a variety of coats with immediate availability.
Reverend W. C. Scott, long serving local pastor, will leave the city after years of community ministry and steady church leadership. His tenure includes counseling, worship leadership, and involvement in neighborhood outreach programs.
Salt water intrusion reported in Orleans mains system affects several streets. Utility crews isolate affected lines while monitoring pressure and advising residents to conserve water until repair crews restore normal flow.
Wire reports the death of 27 year old Elton Purvis in San Diego California where he was stationed with the United States Navy. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs J M Purvis of Drew Louisiana, grandparents Mr and Mrs L D Johnson of Quachita parish, two brothers James and J D Purvis of West Monroe, his wife and a small daughter. Interment is expected in San Diego.
Miss Joy Webb brides elect announces forthcoming marriage to Ernest Howard of Vicksburg. The event includes a fall season reception with prayers led by Mrs Robert Brown and Mrs A J Boswell, meals served, and a program featuring speakers from Vicksburg and other towns. Principal speaker Mrs Joe Caldwell, with Elder Callis currently touring the region, invites public attendance.
The conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will be held in the Young Men’s Christian Association hall on Saturday November 6. Charles A. Cs of 66 serves on the council of twelve. From Salt Lake City.
