Clifton McKenzie a 17 year old Jackson Mississippi freshman at the University of Mississippi died today from poison taken last night at his Oxford college boarding house. Classes were dismissed in his memory and the campus flag was lowered to half mast as the body was sent to Jackson by the same train carrying the Ole Miss football team. The university noted his fine character and good studies with no motive found for the act and Mr and Mrs W E McKenzie of Jackson mourn his loss.
Nashville November 2 Vanderbilt Hustler apologizes for a news story about Louisiana State University fans visiting for a football game. The Reveille of LSU objected to the term rowdy and the paper says the offense was unintentional and regretted by the editor.
Most Rev John W Shaw archbishop of New Orleans dies at 71 after a heart attack. He faced anonymous poison pen letters and returned from Rome recently. Born in Mobile Alabama he was the first native American to lead the New Orleans see and served previously as bishop of San Antonio and Mobile.
