In New Orleans 900 people heard John T. Michel seek governorship with backers Porteous Burke and others on stage. Speakers asserted Michel’s fitness, attacked campaign vilification, and urged support based on business experience and Democratic loyalty.

Sedalia Mo November 2 W J Mc Graw master mechanic at the Missouri Pacific shops laid off 240 shopmen indefinitely under orders from headquarters and reports say 90 of 104 machinists at the Hoisington Kansas new shop were also laid off

Harbor Beach Michigan reports the steamer Saywood ran aground last night for the second time in a month. Ten crewmen were rescued by local life savers after several narrow escapes, with six men saved after great difficulty.
Brakeman L. McNutt suffered a fractured skull and may die after Iron Mountain train No 188 derailed east of Pine Bluff while entering the city. The crash blocked southbound traffic. several crew and passengers were injured. McNutt, formerly from Monroe, was unconscious at Pine Bluff hospital.
Los Angeles November 2 In the McNamara trial prosecutors expect about two months to assemble a fair and impartial jury for the death penalty case linked to the Los Angeles Times explosion. The day produced little progress as challenges and voir dire continue with few if any jurors likely to be seated.
