Washington analysts say the 1976 presidential race lacks strong themes or clear contrasts. Voters show high indecision and muted enthusiasm for Ford and Carter, with little ground gained on key issues. The campaign is marked by trivia, misstatements, and a rare absence of decisive slogans as November approaches.
The AP market basket surveyed 15 items in 13 cities on March 1 1973 and rechecked monthly. October saw the overall basket drop 1.8 percent at the checklist store while meat prices fell in several cities but coffee rose in six and stayed flat in others.
The Associated Press notes a tight race as Ford leads Carter by 1 point 47 to 46 in Gallup’s final poll, with 3 percent for others and 4 percent undecided. Harris and other surveys show mixed results, with Carter briefly ahead in some polls and Ford edging ahead in others.

Judge Tom Stagg ruled elections for two Ouachita Parish School Board seats will proceed Tuesday without a court injunction. The decision came after a two hour hearing amid a federal suit led by Benton Frost seeking to halt or later reapportion the board.
