Louisiana solons eye unpledged electors bill move

Louisiana lawmakers return from weekend recess as the fiscal session nears final action on the unpledged electors bill. The House passed 57 to 45 and awaits Senate action for a possible signature by Gov. Jimmie H. Davis. The plan would let each congressional district pick an elector with two at large statewide, and candidates would indicate voting intent. A federal reapportionment hearing is set for June 18 in New Orleans.

Police and Negroes clashed at a city school project before a settlement. Four skilled Negro workers were admitted to union membership and given jobs, ending the dispute amid cheers and hymns. Agreement brokered by the NAACP, Philadelphia Building Trades, and Board of Education. one union opposed.

Lillie Richardson of Monroe reports she will see her nephew Sgt. A. T. Cowart for the first time in 22 years when he returns home Sunday. Richardson, living at 2708 Lee Avenue, has served overseas and in Alaska as a government employee. Sgt. Cowart is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Cowart of Monroe and brother to a Monroe police officer.

Submarine Thresher Wreckage Photoed Eight-Thousand Feet Deep

Photos show wreckage identified as the hull diving plane and sail area of the nuclear submarine Thresher. The Thresher sank on April 10 with 129 aboard. Images were sent to the Navy Court of Inquiry in Portsmouth and may prompt further deep sea photography by the Trieste.

French Quarter Stripper Found Dead In Apartment

In New Orleans a 22 year old stripper known as Kitty Revelle was found dead in her French Quarter apartment. Dennis Hovde a 24 year old artist who shared the apartment was held for questioning. Police said the death appeared natural and found a rifle ammunition and a sword in the scene.
