Negro Threatens Woman and Is Sentenced in Baton Rouge
James Joseph Hebert of New Orleans pleaded guilty to climbing the running board of Mrs. John Burton's car, drawing a pistol, and forcing her to drive toward Mississippi. Hebert received five years for breaking and entering and ten years for assault and attempted robbery, totaling fifteen years. Police said he rode a stolen bicycle and obtained the pistol by burglary.

One Shot And More Hurt In Picket Fight
Detroit May 30 One man was shot and several beaten in picket line fighting at Briggs Manufacturing plant as a carload of nonstriking men clashed with U A W members. Joseph Ferris 31 vice president of local 212 was shot in the right thigh and leg. He said the assailant was a Homer Martin goon squad member. Ferris and four other unionists chased a car and Ferris was wounded as a struggle followed. He was taken to Receiving hospital with serious injuries. William Grain 49 also sought hospital treatment after being attacked by nine men as windows were broken in cars of pickets. Police blamed factional bitterness between C I O and Martin U A W. Martin argued the day before that peace talks would not be affected.
