Memorial Day exercises were held at First Methodist church in Monroe under Leonidas Barkdull Faulk Post of the American Legion at 8 15 tonight with invocations songs and remarks. In Beaufort Secretary Denby spoke of memories of the dead and unity despite past conflicts. In New York soldiers and sailors who died in the Civil Spanish American and World Wars were honored with an elaborate tribute on land and sea.

Barefoot robber prowls West Monroe home at night
The Smith residence on the West Side was entered after 11 p.m. Saturday with about $40 stolen. Sheriff McClanahan’s bloodhounds followed the trail from the kitchen window to the coal chute, through town and back to the depot before losing the scent.
