Crowley Youth Says Mercy Shot Killed Brother

A 13 year old Crowley farm boy Conrad Ray Thibodeaux told a coroner's jury he shot his 19 year old brother Jack Benton Thibodeaux with a .22 caliber pistol in an accidental shooting. The district attorney's office will decide whether to charge after the parents cope with the tragedy.

Vote to amend long govern bill fails in Senate

In Baton Rouge the Senate rejected an amendment to reduce $75,000 from Gov. Earl Longs $411 million general appropriations bill for Orleans parish voter canvassing. After 30 minutes of debate the amendment was killed and the Orleans registrar schedule remained, 28 to 6. A Senate decision on the House approved bill awaited. Local Senator J. D. Senate OKs $411 Million General Appropriation Bill

The Senate approved Gov. Earl Longs $411 million general appropriation bill in a 37 to 0 vote and sent the House approved measure to the governor for final action.

Hoboes Cleared As Suspects In Prison Escape

Ruston officers cleared two vagrants identified as Eschel Canary Cain and Paul Rudolph Smith as suspected escapees from Mississippi State Prison. Four inmates fled Parchman after kidnapping a guard. other fugitives named John Cornette Billy Bramlett Albert Estes and Travis Abney were identified by prison officials as the actual escapees. The manhunt extended into Louisiana and Arkansas.
