Hon Daniel S Henderson of South Carolina delivered the annual Confederate Veterans reunion address in Chattanooga Tennessee on May 28. He urged survivors and descendants to resist temporary politicians and defend the federal constitution, church state separation, freedom of the press, and mass education while gazing toward Missionary Ridge and Lookout Mountain.
Night and Thursday forecast show fair conditions with little change in temperature. Calm winds and mild air support a tranquil spell with no significant weather events expected.

O Laughlin testifies he was closely connected with Roosevelt for two decades and disputes any claim of drunkenness. The defense outlines plans to prove a general report accusing Roosevelt of liquor use and its publication without malice.

Washington May 28 General Lunsford L Lomax one of the oldest surviving major generals of the Confederate Cavalry died today in Washington aged 79 He was an intimate friend of Robert E Lee and served with distinction in many engagements.
Covington Louisiana May 27 W J Bynum of Columbia Louisiana and Alabama Normal School graduate has accepted the principalship of Covington’s new high school He will arrive in a few days to confer with Superintendent FE Lyon succeeding Professor Peck now in Boyce Louisiana
In Lafayette on May 28 the Southwestern board re-elected President Stephens without opposition. Opponents failed to secure a vote to remove him or force change. A physician election settled with Pr. R. D. Voorhies defeating Dr. J Franklin Mouton. The meeting remained harmonious.
Baton Rouge May 28. Engineer Jessie Roberts killed and fireman Louis Breazeale wounded when the Clinton branch local passenger train derailed about a mile west of Clinton. Passengers unharmed. Cause not certain though believed due to a defective rail. Roberts a longtime Baton Rouge resident leaves a wife and three children.
Bryan Simmons announces opposition protests focusing on administrative features of a bill. He urges clarity and public discussion as opposition voices mobilize against the proposed measure.
Chairman Simmons will meet with Secretary Bryne to review protests from Germany France Great Britain and others over clause provisions in the Underwood tariff bill. The talks focus on treaty abrogation concerns and a five percent discount for American owned vessels.
Baton Rouge May 28 The Louisiana State Railway Commission adopted a resolution limiting its intervention in Interstate Commerce Commission complaints. It will notify shippers that the commission may investigate and file proceedings in the state’s name only if the issue has general importance to Louisiana shippers. The measure aims to curb frequent requests in rare cases.
