Alumni Observe May Day Events At Local Hotels
On the Cherokee terrace of the Frances hotel and the Foot garden of the Virginia lovely girls in summery frocks faced young men in white linens as speakers advised on paths forward. Retta, granddaughter of Mrs. Julius, wore a pink mousse frock with flowers. A farewell gift and small pink em berty favors marked the gathering. The week’s calendar lists Mr. and Mrs. J. R White’s barbecue in their garden and Mrs. Nathan Gaston’s coffee hour for Mrs. Ray Wise in Los Angeles. Miss Blalock has lived in Jonesboro and worked for Southern Bell. Mr. Cox, a Don’s College graduate, now helps his father in business as manager.

Tuesday Zone No 1 Methodist Missionary society meets at Mer Rouge at 2 pm. Piano recitals by Mrs Harry Newhall and Mrs Florence Zeigler Allbritton listed. Beta chapter Delphians met at Mrs H M James with many program notes and officer elections for the year. Luncheon served. the Wise family returns to Los Angeles after a visit, with Mrs S R Wright staying in Best, Texas for an indefinite period.

Varied Program Marks Last A.A.U.W. Meeting
Monroe branch of the American Association of University Women held the season’s final program at the home of Mrs. J Noble White on May 19. Guests from the Musical coterie joined talks on European alliances modern art and modern music by Louise Moore supervisor of music in city schools and others. The program traced influences from England Germany and France on American art and noted contemporary painters and composers. A business session planned a tea for Northeast Center girl graduates and members recessed until September.
