King Parades Confederate veterans and visitors through grand procession with crowds lining streets. Officials praise reunion as historic, honoring service and sacrifice amid festive ceremonies and salute to veterans.
Chattanooga welcomes thousands for the twenty third annual reunion of United Confederate Veterans with Gen Bennett H. Young presiding. The program includes sponsor parades, receptions, and a grand ball, plus numerous meals at Camp Stewart and Salvation-like rest facilities.
Tonight and Tuesday expect increasing cloudiness with little change in temperature. The outlook notes minimal warming or cooling and steady conditions across the period.
An early morning fire at 2 40 sparked in the rear of Iron Mountain Bakery causing about 4000 dollars in damage to the bakery and an adjoining house. The bakery owned by J F Wetzel carried 1000 dollars insurance, Iron Mountain Bakery 1500, upstairs occupant L F Krognire with 209. Abe Arent owned the adjoining house used by S Wilson’s barber shop and R C Bakers restaurant where barber shop suffered 25 dollars loss with no insurance. Baker held 500 dollars insurance. Origin of the fire is unknown. Congress member J W Elder left for Washington after ten days at home as House and Senate debated tariff bills.
