Caseyville Fight Ends As Vets Leave Box Cars
In EAST ST LOUIS ILL May 24 the Caseyville battle ended peacefully as 300 World War I veterans ended a 12 hour box car blockade on the Baltimore and Ohio line eight miles east of town. National guardsmen arrived to prevent disorder but the veterans released the cars and awaited promised transportation to Washington Indiana. Sheriff Jerome Munie pledged auto and truck transport to Washington to continue the chartered voyage for a cash bonus bill plea in Congress.
