Freight cuts by ICC exceed expectations across regions
The Interstate Commerce Commission set rail freight reductions of 14 percent in the east, 13.5 percent in the west, and 12.5 percent in the southern and mountain Pacific territories effective July 1, with agricultural products largely exempt. The commission also allowed railroads a 5.5 percent return on railway property, higher than the prior standard. Wall Street welcomed the move as stocks rallied at the open, while experts call for a uniform mileage scale for both inter and intra state rates.

Gas Kills Firemen in Milwaukee Sewer Shaft

Garrett records in court show saving of coin
Credit for the speedy termination of the criminal session in the sixth district court is due District Attorney Garrett who thereby enabled the parish to effect a saving of approximately $1000. More cases came up before the court during this session than at any time during Garretts tenure and were disposed of in record time taking up but one week instead of two. Eleven prisoners were sentenced to the penitentiary three jail sentences were given and two fines imposed by Judge Odom during the session.
