Murder Affidavit Filed In Indianapolis Area Slaying
Marion police filed a first degree murder affidavit against Glenn Stewart 30 for the death of Larry Schmidt 30 whose mutilated body was found in a Marion home. Schmidt’s wife Louise Schmidt 25 testified she and her two children were held through a 16 day trip of torture across Illinois Missouri and Arkansas. She said Schmidt was stabbed fatally April 30 and dismembered whose body was dumped in a basement. She and the children escaped as the captor slept. The case involves Arkadelphia area and a tour through four states.

McKeithen Approves State Employee Pay Increases
Gov. John J. McKeithen announced on May 23 1966 from Baton Rouge that the Civil Service Commission pay plan for over 38 000 classified state employees will take effect July 1 1966 with a 4 million executive budget allocation for minimum implementation. About 16 000 workers will gain raises July 1 and 11 300 earn under 300 a month. 22 000 more may receive increases as funds allow. A constitutional amendment proposal followed to let either legislature or governor approve Civil Service pay plans.
