The Monroe City Council approved salary increases for the mayor and two commissioners to take effect after Louisiana Legislature approval and the next pay period. Mayor Ralph Troy would earn 18000, Commissioners H. W. McSherry and Luther T. Harper 17000 each. Three Killed By Storms In Kansas Areas
Severe storms swept Kansas with winds up to 65 mph killing a baby in a west Hutchinson mobile home seven miles from Hutchinson and two women south of Topeka. Kimberly Mitzner 20 months died on arrival at Hutchinson hospital. The Mitzner father 37 and mother 30 were injured or in serious condition. Three sons ages 10 9 and 6 had fractures. Cabondale residents Noye Woodring 50 and Margaret Stevens 61 died after their car was swept into a rain swollen creek south of Topeka. Power outages affected Hutchinson as the storm toppled a 170 foot antenna atop the Kansas Inn and damaged buildings.
