Retired Major Perkins Dies After Auto Crash Near Tucson
LeRoy C. Perkins, a retired major in the Army Air Forces and former commanding officer of the Selman Field preflight school, died at his ranch near Tucson Arizona Saturday night. He served as preflight chief from December 1942 to June 1943 before transferring to Tyndall Field Florida and retiring for health reasons. He is survived by his wife Esther M. Trime. Born November 1888 in Des Moines Iowa, Perkins moved to Arizona in 1937 to pursue ranching and development. He held World War I service as a pilot and observer and later served with the Iowa National Guard before reentering active duty in 1942.
