In Santo Domingo, loyalist junta troops occupied the main rebel radio station after days of fighting. Insurgent resistance in the northern area appeared to collapse as the siege continued with unclear casualty figures and U.S. casualty reports.
Washington AP reports NASA disclosed eight satellites or satellite parts launched March in two Thor-Agena flights from Van Nuys Air Force Base, then a 7-for-1 shot on April 28. Names include gravity gradient satellites, Greb, Oscar 1 2 3, Sureal, FEGRS 3, a solar radiation satellite, and a dodecahedron craft.
Singer Phyllis McGuire told a federal grand jury about her friendship with mob boss Momo Giancana. Giancana arrived for his grand jury appearance with associates as reporters pressed for photos. McGuire declined most questions and indicated she may testify about European and Caribbean trips tied to Giancana.
Nancy Salinger filed a general indignities divorce suit in Hot Springs Chan celry Court, Arkansas. Pierre Emil George Salinger, former White House press secretary, is the defendant per confirmation from his Los Angeles office, though attorney A D Shelton did not confirm the name. In Binh Thuan Province Vietnamese fighter bombers killed 85 Viet Cong in a mountain valley attack observed by a U S forward air controller. The planes used heavy bombs and machine guns for 20 minutes. Forty U S Navy planes hit three military barracks and damaged other sites in the second straight day of strikes from the carrier Coral Sea north of the DMZ amid talk of widening air actions.

Two workers died and over 1,000 Lockport High School students were evacuated as the blaze burned for about two hours. The Vickie tug exploded after an oil leak ignited on its engines. Firefighters and Coast Guard units responded.
Frank H. Cushing and his son Frank Jr survived 32 days adrift in the Pacific on a makeshift 20 foot raft. They set out from Guam April 15 to collect rare fish and were found north of Luzon by Philippine authorities, then airlifted to Clark Air Base. Both were reported in good health after the ordeal.
New York welcomed Chung Hee Park president of South Korea as ticker tape rained down from Broadway skyscrapers. He arrived from Washington with his wife and was greeted by Mayor Robert F. Wagner along a Broadway procession to City Hall, after a two day visit reaffirming the U.S. alliance with South Korea.
