President Wison designates June 5 as National Registration Day and backs the draft plan tied to the army bill. The proclamation signals broad selective service measures and official civic participation nationwide.
President Wilson signs and issues the registration proclamation under the 1917 act. It directs all males aged 21 to 30 to register, with penalties up to one year in prison for noncompliance, and sets timing for the June 5 registration and related enforcement.
Boston dispatch reports Harvard's second division of ambulance drivers to enter service since war declaration sails from an American port. The unit lists 29 Harvard men and will be joined by other detachments sailing in the days ahead.
A Provost line reports that a regiment of marines under Colonel Charles A. Boyan will join the first army division bound for France under Major General Pershing. The unit, 2600 strong, includes six veterans who have served in Haiti Santo Domingo and Cuba.

The 1917 Canadian Racing Association season begins with the Ontario Jockey Club at Woodbine Park Toronto and the Montreal Driving Club at Delorimier Park Montreal. Ontario operates eight tracks for 112 racing days yielding 140000 dollars in provincial taxes. Montreal has seven tracks for 98 days. Also noted is a San Francisco to St Louis automobile tour by advertising delegates for a national convention, involving twenty cars and a prairie-churn baggage carrier.

The facility includes a modern shop with crane power for heavy parts, a tire filling station, wash rack, and a spacious storage area with hours to suit patrons. Competent machinists will oversee repairs and rebuilding for patrons, with potential for future car manufacturing.
