May 17 London report says Britain seeks a ten year path to an independent Palestine with 75 000 Jewish immigrants in five years and land transfer controls. New Orleans May 17. State police warned motorists to be cautious in picking up hitchhikers while five prisoners escaped last night from Harrison county jail Gulfport Mississippi. The fugitives dug through a brick wall on the second floor and slid to the ground on knotted blankets. Safety citation backfires as driver collapses at depot

Arthur Moe, 53, a truck driver, met two policemen at an express depot in Los Angeles. After a quip from Captain C. B. Horrell presenting him with a safe driving citation, Moe laughed and soon collapsed in his truck. A physician said the cause was a nervous reaction and ordered bed rest.
