A widow Mrs Dupree and her eight children were found drowned in their Plancheville home attic as Bayou DeGlaize levee breaks widen. Rescue efforts continued after authorities reported flooding risk and levee weaknesses near Woodside along the Atchafalaya River.
Army engineers warned that a fifty mile stretch of BayouneGlaize levees along the Mississippi floodplain could fail within 48 hours. The nine foot crown shaped dykes of buckshot clay lack sloping landward embankments and are prone to rupture as waters surge, potentially creating the largest crevasse in Mississippi flood history. Louisiana flood relief director John M. Parker commented.
Floodwaters advance from ten Bayou DeGlaize crevasses threatening Saint Mary, Avoyelles, and St. Landry parishes. Army engineers say Woodside embankment likely cannot hold as Levee work along Port Barre to Butte La Rose is abandoned and thousands seek safety from the rising tide. Continued on page five.
A white woman was attacked by a Black man in a suburban Little Rock kitchen. Police pursued the suspect as officers searched the area and the woman was treated in a hospital in a highly nervous condition.
Cheer spread as Jr. J. Keith learns his brother and Greenville family are alive after a fatal flood report. Earlier notices claimed the death of Mr. and Mrs. Keith and their five children, but a remote message confirms they were marooned in a schoolhouse 15 miles away and are unharmed.
Arkansas City observations show the Mississippi River gauge at 46.6 feet with a 0.2 foot drop in 24 hours. The town’s backwater declined 0.3 feet in the same period, totaling a 5.85 foot fall from the crest.

Ten men were injured in a mine accident at the Johnson mine in Dickson City, Scranton Coal Co. workers say the cage dropped sixty feet after engineer George Brownell fell ill, smashing at the bottom of the 600-foot shaft and tearing the 700-foot cable, with four men suffering broken legs and the rest hurt internally.
Governor C. H. Simpson Brig. Gen. L. A. Toombs and aides depart Alexandria for Mansura to inspect the Bayou DeGlaize flood area. They report chaotic conditions from Baton Rouge to Sicily Island and note a refugee camp housing 16,000 near Sicily Island. General Toombs arrived in Alexandria by airplane from Monroe piloted by Lieut. K. L. Mitchell.
Koenigsburg reports another aviation milestone as German gliders extend distance records. A 69 mile flight underscored continued progress in lightweight craft and piloted performance.
Divers and sheriff plan extended river searches for the body of Dr Lyman E McDonald 35 a Monroe veterinarian drowned when his skiff caught fire on the Ouachita River. Explosives possible Tuesday to dislodge the body if not recovered.
Three planes awaited favorable weather to begin the New York to Paris nonstop flight. Clarence D. Chamblin and Lloyd Bertaud faced a contract dispute with backer Charles Levine but settled a new agreement guaranteeing prize money exceeding 100000 dollars and $50000 to each aviator’s wife. Heavy fog and winds over the mid Atlantic delayed the start as pilots awaited better conditions.
Ruth Snyder and her former lover Gray are moved to Sing Sing under heavy guard for their impending execution. They ride from Queens jail toward Ossining aboard escorted cars, retracing their alleged honeymoon route and facing separate death-row cells.

A 23 member American Legion detail from Monroe’s L. B. Faulk post No 13 launched a Red Cross train to the Mansura district after the Bayou DeGlaize breaks swelled the area. By noon they had rescued 100 refugees and described appalling conditions in Avoyelles parish including a baby born in a skiff during the floods.
The Associated Press reports Captain C. Buchanan and Private Marvin Jackson of the U S Marines were killed in a clash with liberals at La Paz Centro near Leon Nicaragua last night. Six liberals were reported killed and several Marines wounded.
Navy Department advised that on Saturday night an armed native band attacked the American marine camp at Chinandega Nicaragua. The attackers fled when the Americans returned fire.
Governor Dennis Murphree, who became governor after the death of Henry L. Whitfield, will launch his bid for re election in Jackson Mississippi tonight. Also running are A C Anderson Ripley M S Conner Seminary and Theo G Bilbo of Poplarville.
A large fire in Castries Saint Lucia destroyed seventeen blocks of business and residential premises last night. Damage is estimated at 300,000 pounds sterling with two people injured.
Governor Simpson and Adjutant General Toombs inspected the Richland parish refugee camp near Delhi and praised its organization. The camp housed about 3,000 people with 2,580 blacks and 500 whites, plus 200 added in the week. Rations served up to 15,000 across Oak Grove to Sicily Island, with $50,000 in food stored in an old Delhi warehouse supported by the Red Cross.
