Washington May 14 The base coinage committee killed a proposal to preclude any further devaluation of the dollar by a party vote of 13 to 6. The committee sent the legislation to the House for debate by the same vote.
Governor Richard W. Leche has 30 days to file a motion for review of his conviction at Alexandria Louisiana. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined 3000 dollars after charges mailed to him. The U S Fifth Circuit granted a one day stay dated May 9 following denial of a rehearing.

Robert H. Holmes 48 of Monroe Missouri Pacific railroad engineer and World War veteran died at the United States Veterans hospital in Pineville after six weeks as a patient. He lived in Monroe 25 years and was active in Locomotive Firemen No. 598 and veterans groups. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Carl J. Hambro, former president of the Norwegian parliament, says Rudolf Hess may have been sent to mislead England and may be a fanatic willing to die to help topple England. He notes Hess deserted Hitler is uncertain and the exact game is unknowable.
