Bills prepared but not yet introduced include repeal or tightening of the Hood liquor law. Senator Cucullu will seek repeal while Senator Hood backs a harsher enforcement regime. House opens with 91 members present and four bills introduced.
Baton Rouge May 13 plans are completed for Governor Fuqua’s inauguration on Monday May 19. The day begins with a parade from the University grounds at 11 o’clock led by grand marshal Chas O Weick. The ceremony at noon at the capitol will use a platform from the north entrance with Chief Justice O Neill supervising and Joe Gebelin serving as master of ceremonies. A university camp tent will host the reception and dance following the address.
Frank T. Payne urges creation of a five member lighting and heating board to issue bonds for a Monroe field gas pipeline and New Orleans distributing facilities. Estimated total cost 19.3 million dollars includes pipeline eight point eight million and the existing plant. Revenue from natural gas sales would cover debt, Payne says.

Hudson Maxim of New York proposes a merit based presidential system with a committee of experts ranking candidates by average score. The top candidate would be President and the second would be Vice President, with Cabinet picks chosen similarly. He would repeal the prohibition amendment.
Paris May 13 The premiership of Poincare will end June 4 as the left wins a parliamentary majority. The cabinet will manage current business while the new chamber is organized. Briand is favored as next premier, with Debates on a likely working majority. Official totals show 569 seated with 15 remaining seats in play.

Congressman John W. Langley Kentucky convicted of conspiracy in whiskey transactions in 1921 receives two years in Atlanta federal prison. Milton Lipschutz Philadelphia partner also gets two years. Huth Alliance Ohio and Be Carey Canton Ohio receive similar sentences. no fines. Appeals planned. Langley and Lipschutz released on bond.

In New York on May 13 raw sugar sold at 3 7-8 cents per pound for Cuban cost, a new yearly low. This follows a price dip not seen since February 1923 when sugar traded at 38 4/8 cents. Weak demand drives the decline.
