Ladel well hit by lightning sparks fierce Ouachita fire

The Ladel oil well near Monroe Ouachita parish was struck by lightning and erupted into a raging fire on the night of the incident. Sid Simmons Drilling Co crews mobilized to fight flames with water then steam if needed, while conservation officials coordinated response from Monroe and New Orleans.

Fairbanks Hit by Destructive Twister Across Ouachita Parish

A violent cyclone-like storm, centered on Fairbanks, passed through Ouachita parish causing major damage. Four Southern Carbon Company smut houses and the Union Sunday School building were badly damaged or swept from foundations. Total damage estimated between 1 000 and 2 000 dollars. Hail marbles and vivid lightning accompanied the wind, with gardens and timber reporting harm across the parish.

Gravel Deposit Mining Here to Start in Ouachita Parish

Caddo Capital plans launch of gravel sand and clay mining on Ouachita parish land through transfers to T E Stephenson of Shreveport. Contracts cover 160 acres for 15 years at seven and a half cents per cubic yard with operations within 90 days. Additional sales include 72 acres and an undivided half interest on another tract, all to Stephenson with similar pricing. A separate Louisiana Sand and Gravel pit near Monroe, leased for 30 years, reportedly holds 5,000,000 cubic yards of high grade gravel and aims to begin within 30 days to aid North Louisiana road building.

Railway to Move Key Offices to Shreveport

The Arkansas and Louisiana Missouri Railway will relocate its general auditor R R Renfro and general freight agent J H Shaw from Monroe to Shreveport effective June 1. Other Monroe staff stay. no other office moves planned. Daily service to Bastrop and thrice weekly to Crossett continue with solid business amid a lull.

The steamer Benalla carrying 1100 passengers on the London to Sydney run was beached off Cherbourg France after colliding with the tanker Patella in fog, according to a Lloyds report.
