The cotton market opened steady on rainfall in the South and fell 6 to 14 points, later extending to losses of 26 points. Prices rallied briefly from the day’s low but eased, with July at 21.05 and December at 20.88. The close saw the steady down 25 to 40 points, spot quiet at middling 25.5 cents.
R. E. Floweree & Co. notes heavy rains in the Texas panhandle causing liquidation and a $1.50 per bale market setback. Southern interests sold while the trade showed active buying on anticipated unfavorable Sunday weather. Reports from Texas and central areas indicate poor germination and stands, with a potential delay in planting boosting bullish sentiment.

May 12 Chicago hog prices show 4,000 hogs traded with a market 10 cents lower than Friday. Top good grades 180 to 240 pounds bring 18.00. Cattle and sheep details note fat lambs and springers down, weekly top prices listed for clipped lambs and wooled lambs, with overall demand dragging.
Butter prices rise across grades with 12,182 tubs noted and creamery extras at 43 1 8 cents. Standards and extra firsts range around 42 1 2 to 43 cents, while firsts near 41 3 4 cents and seconds at 38 41. Eggs hold at 36,207 cases.
The infant son of Mr and Mrs H T Boatner of Collinston died at 3 yesterday. Interment followed in a Collinston cemetery this afternoon. An unrelated notice mentions Infant McMullen, child of Mr and Mrs Fallin on McEnery Street.
H. W. Raynor, sentenced to 12 months for alimony nonpayment, was freed today by court order due to poor health. Dr. C. P. Gray, parish coroner, affidavits say continued confinement would be dangerous. Abram Adams pleads guilty to theft of goods valued at 31 and receives 30 days in jail. State v Henry Irvin jury listed. trial ongoing as of 2 p.m. with amended bill changing weapon from knife to razor.

Redpath week introduces Junior Town allowing boys and girls to form a miniature government. They hold town meetings draft platforms nominate candidates and demonstrate their activities on the Chautauqua platform for an adult audience after the afternoon program.
The two largest colored fraternal orders of the state plan a grand lodge convention in Monroe starting Tuesday. More than 750 delegates from across the state will attend. The New Orleans delegation travels by a special Missouri Pacific train arriving Monday. Sessions occur at St James colored church Congo and Adams streets with the women’s order meeting at the C M E temple. A L Brunner and Dr John T Miller lead committees.

Earl Monk joined Mr. and Mrs. Monk from Turkey Creek as guests. Dottie Lee Cotton Helen Boyd W M Cotton and Mr. Duvall were Good Pine visitors Thursday night. J J Logan was a business visitor in Alexandria Friday. Mr and Mrs John Hooper visited Mrs Rhinehart in Clarks Thursday. The Leach family also visited Clarks on Wednesday.
A poultry tour through Rapides parish is planned for June by Mrs. Euna Dykes and B. W Baker with a committee of Rapides Poultry association growers. Stops will include commercial plants and farms of leading poultry producers. The tour aims to show profitability of poultry farming using best methods.
Vera Thompson, a yearlong stenographer at the Ouachita parish health unit, resigns and departs Monday for New Orleans to attend training at Turo infirmary nurses' school. Ella May Banister will replace her immediately at the local unit.

P M Atkins of Rapides parish is named as the second member of a commission to aid investigations for the upcoming legislature. The two members would take office Monday May 21 after the governor’s inauguration with a third member to be chosen later. Atkins regrets he cannot serve due to business interests in Monroe where he leads Monroe Hardware and presides over the Monroe Baseball Association.
Governor elect Long refrained from naming or commenting on the current highway commission to take office after inauguration. He reiterated that only courts, not the legislature, should handle any inquiry into the commission’s activities, while Major Payne welcomed further investigations. Dr. Paul N. Cyr, the incoming lieutenant governor, was in Baton Rouge conferring with Long and administration allies.
The Louisiana potato tour moved to Mangham where junior high orchestra performances entertained. A luncheon followed by an auditorium session featured speakers from LSA extension, parish agents, and area educators. Afternoon tours showcased fields owned by Crawford, White, Bowdon, Vickers, and Bowdon with lessons on seed size and fertilizer needs for high yields.
