Viet Cong Seize Song Be Center In Heavy Assault

Viet Cong regiments occupied Song Be city for seven hours killing five U S advisers and twenty Vietnamese soldiers. Three government battalions skirmished with about 1200 guerrillas as air strikes and ground fighting continued. Casualties mounted on both sides with a major battle developing along the river northeast of Song Be.

New Insurance Bill Submitted in Louisiana Senate

Insurance Commissioner Dudley Guglielmo proposes a file and use bill to make Louisiana rates more competitive. Sponsored by Sens. Spencer Myrick Fred Eagan and Lawrence J. Gbin the measure awaits fiscal labeling or three fourths legislative consent before a fiscal session. The bill shifts fire and casualty rates from fixed state control to firm filed structures reviewed by the commissioner.

Senate Moves to Introduce Governor Succession Bill

Louisiana Senate approved a 34 to 5 vote to introduce a two term succession bill for the fiscal session. Sen. Man Hunted In Slaying Of Wife, Store Manager

In Columbus Ohio a man was sought after his wife Virginia Jemison 56 was found shot to death at her home as police hunted Richard 56 in connection with a deadly shooting at a downtown drugstore where John Lyman 37 a store manager and Robert Ayler 37 a district manager were fired upon at close range. Lyman died about seven hours later.

Washington AP Senate nears vote on the poll tax issue as Southern opponents of the voting rights bill block an overall debate limit. Sheriffs' Salary Hike Proposed By Louisiana Association

Ouachita Parish Sheriff Bailey Grant released proposed salary increases for Monroe area sheriffs as part of a bill backed by the Louisiana Sheriffs Association. NEA Blacklists Oklahoma Over Poor School Conditions

The National Education Association sanctions Oklahoma for alleged substandard schools and warns teachers from out of state not to take positions there.
